The Clayton Connection with Amy Callaghan Vol. 1
Hi and welcome to my first in a series of newsletters.
I am running for a seat on Clayton City Council. You may ask yourself, why would anyone want to run for public office in today’s environment? My answer is, there is more that unites us in Clayton than there is that divides us and that the city needs leaders that can work with each other to serve the entire citizenry and not just a partisan few.
For example, we all love our parks. Our library is one of the best in Contra Costa County. Our downtown parades and events are more fun and community-building than anywhere else! We have so many clubs and charitable organizations in our city from Rotary to the Historical Society to the Garden Club, to Clayton Valley Village, and the CBCA, to name just a few. They all exist to support the well-being and interests of our residents, and we see their good work in our city every year. All these organizations are out there doing the work to keep us united.
I’ve been out talking to people about my potential and now, a very real candidacy, for months now. The number one question I get asked before all others is, “Who are you running against?.” My answer is always; I’m not running “against” anyone! I’m running FOR a seat on the City Council. Should I win this November, I will make it a priority to work with civility and a commitment to cooperation and a steadfast desire to keep us working directly for the good of the community we serve.
My job as a Commercial Property Manager puts me in the middle of nearly every transaction. Whether I am negotiating something between a Landlord and Tenant, or Vendor and Owner, or Broker and Tenant, I am in the middle. My goal is always to shepherd along discussions to help get to a compromise, wherever needed. I use my knowledge and expertise as both a property manager and a business manager to make sure that the compromise is something that both parties see as a win-win.
I believe in hard work. As such, I decided that, rather than sit in City Council meetings, or watch them online and grumble about what the council is doing, that I was going to run for a seat and affect positive change. I would rather do the work that needs to be done to keep Clayton safer, cleaner, and more fiscally sound.
I want to hear from YOU! My campaign is focused on the issues that Clayton Residents need help with. Good or bad, these issues need to be discussed so that we can come to common ground and feel good about the work we put in to positively improve Clayton and our way of life.
So, please reach out to me! See me at one of my Meet & Greet events. Find me on the street or trails while I’m out walking my dogs. Whatever it takes. I want to hear from YOU!
Thank you and I would be honored to earn your vote.
Amy
